The winners of the prestigious AIB Photojournalism Awards 2013 were announced last night
(15.02.13) at a ceremony in The Burlington Hotel, Dublin. Irish Independent Photojournalist Mark
Condren was named as the Press Photographers. Association of Ireland AIB Photojournalist of the
Year 2013, Condren.s third time to scoop the title.
The Awards, which are open to members of the Press Photographer.s Association of Ireland,
celebrate and reward excellence in Irish Photojournalism. Over 2,000 images were entered into this
year.s competition, by 120 photojournalists from all around Ireland, across nine categories – news,
daily life, sports action, sports portfolio, portrait, environment, politics, arts & entertainment and
The expert panel who judged this year.s competition comprised Chairperson, Dermot O.Shea (former
Photographer and Picture Editor) and two multi award-winning Photojournalists, Eddie Mulholland,
The Telegraph Group and Philip Coburn, The Sunday Mirror. Speaking about Mark Condren.s winning
portfolio the Judges said; .With two category winners in his portfolio, alongside a breath of quality
images showing an astonishing range of ability the Photojournalist of the Year stood out. Great
composition and a mastery of all elements of press photography presented the judges with a set of
images that were difficult to fault, but easy to feel envious of..
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Denis O.Callaghan, Head of Branch Banking, AIB, said; “AIB is
delighted to be celebrating 11 years of partnership with the Press Photographers. Association of
Ireland, in sponsoring its annual awards and accompanying exhibition. In the coming months the
travelling exhibition will visit many of our branches and other selected venues around Ireland, often
coinciding with local arts festivals . bringing the outstanding talent of members of the PPAI to a

The AIB Photojournalism Exhibition, featuring 125 prints, opens in AIB, Bankcentre Branch on
Tuesday, 19th February 2013. It will then go on tour, visiting selected AIB branches and other venues
nationwide. Masterclasses for schools, camera clubs and photography students will also be held in
locations throughout the country over the coming months.
