Bryan O'Brien

Bryan is from Killarney, Co.Kerry and has worked for The Irish Times since 1998. He has also been a staff photographer at Independent Newspapers, The Irish Press Group, The Longford Leader and the London Post Group. In 2007 he moved to Australia to work for a year at the Sydney Morning Herald on an exchange programme.
Bryan has won a number of National Press Photography prizes including the AIB /PPAI Photographer Of The Year Award five times, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2006. He has represented Ireland in The Fuji European Press Photographer Competition on two occasions and in 2006 he became the first Irish photographer to win the UK Picture Editors, Photographer of the Year Award.
In June 2008 he scooped first prize in the Arts and Entertainment category of the UK based competition “The Press Photographer’s Year” with a portrait of the dancer Kenneth Flak at the Sydney Opera House.
