How is the winner chosen ?

The AIB Photojournalism Awards were established to bring the talented and memorable work of Ireland's press photographers to a wider audience. Entries are submitted by members of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland and the images should have been taken during the previous twelve months.

The Awards have gone from strength to strength and judging the entries can take several days. With over 1600 entries to consider, all of a very high standard, difficult decisions have to be made. The Judging panel picks first, second and third places in each of 9 picture categories, as well as the overall winner and special prize for the most humorous entry.

For the 2007 Awards, the international panel of judges comprised chairperson Bride Rosney, Director of Communications, RTE, Mr. Ian Day, Picture Editor, Yorkshire Post, and Mr. Jon Levy, Foto 8, London.

The Exhibition

In addition to the winning photographs, each year the judges select over 100 of the best entries to be included in the AIB PPAI Exhibition. This travels throughout the country, as well as overseas, to enable as many people as possible to view the outstanding work of the Irish Press Photographers. This year the exhibition opens in the Gallery of Photography in Dublin on 20th February. It will then tour the country and be on public display at selected venues while Photographic Masterclasses will be held at key locations. Further details from Mary Crotty PR, 01 661 8777.
