Message from President McAleese

As I leave office today, I would like to thank the Irish media who have
accompanied me throughout the last fourteen years, reporting on events the
length and breadth of this country, and further afield again, educating and
informing the public about this office and my tenure at Áras an Uachtaráin.
In good days and in bad, no matter what the headlines, I have always
encountered respect, professionalism and courtesy from journalists,
photographers, cameramen and women at all times, all the while holding my
custodianship of this very special office to the highest scrutiny.
Martin and I would like to thank you for the privacy which you afforded to
our children when they were adapting to their new environment in the early
years. I would also like to extend my appreciation for the interest you
have shown in this Presidency, and especially in this office, and I wish
you all every success in your continued endeavours.
