Biography

A native of Tyrone, Oliver joined Sportsfile 2006. Oliver has been a photographer since leaving school in 1979, and having worked for a number of Regional and National Newspapers in Northern Ireland during his 28 years in the business, he has gained a vast experience in News, PR and especially Sport, which is his big passion. Oliver is vastly experienced in GAA, Soccer Rugby and other sports at domestic and international level. He has been covering Gaelic Games involving Ulster teams since 1986, through the province's most successful era. he also has travelled all over Europe covering Northern Ireland international soccer games and Ulster's Heineken Cup rugby games. In 2009 I won a " McNamee Award" for Best GAA Photograph of 2008 which was awarded by The GAA in Croke Park, the judges comments were, This image (Joe Canning, Galway, in action against Cormac Donnelly, Antrim. All-Ireland Senior Championship Qualifier, Round 1 2008, Casement Park, Belfast) from the match between Galway and Antrim epitomizes the photographic skill, vision, timing and concentration of the photographer in capturing a millisecond of time showing the sawdust flying and the hurl smashing in what is regarded as one of the fastest ball games in the world. It vividly reflects the courage, commitment and competition of the sport of hurling.
